Aerocomp performs water monitoring as part of its audit and assessment work. These studies may be independent or one of the various elements in an environmental program. The monitoring program is the foremost prerequisite to establishing accurate information concerning surface or underground resource contamination. The program is evaluated at several levels before drilling or testing takes place. In this manner, a well planned, coherent program is maintained that will provide good estimates of the existence or extent of water pollution. Water monitoring is required in the event of confirmed or possible contamination. Sites of contamination are identified in accordance with RCRA, CERCLA, or other state and local regulations. Locations such as disposal facilities and underground storage tanks are deemed at high risk of contaminating water resources and are required to investigate the situation. Once a site of contamination is located, a monitoring program is initiated to determine the existence and/or extent of damage.

Treatment

The monitoring program continues with an in-depth look at the site. It defines the existing land formations and their effect on the surface and groundwater motion. The site characterization also scrutinizes the facility of interest through process analysis and industrial records. These aspects and more are defined in terms of their effect on the water resource and used as a supplement to the actual data collected when the wells are finished. When the underground water resource is being impacted, geological considerations call for describing the facility site, or possible pollution source, with respect to the surrounding land formations. Topographical maps and site visits aid in locating and identifying surrounding hills, mountains, and valleys that might be influencing the motion of water. In addition, sources of water such as streams, rivers, lakes, and oceans are determined so that sources and sinks of surface water flows may be qualified. More in-depth analysis requires that the surrounding soil structure be identified. This information is useful in that it establishes the hydrogeological behavior, or water motion, in the area.

Sampling Well Cover

After developing a monitoring program that addresses all the important project considerations and completely defines the system, we perform sample collection. Surface and groundwater samples are obtained following established guidelines and may involve the construction and development of groundwater monitoring wells. Soil sampling near water sampling points may also be performed for additional information. The results of soil sampling in the immediate vicinity complements the water quality data and aids in determining the extent of contamination.
